Sugru

Wow… this stuff looks amazing.

Sugru is a consumer, air setting, modeling silicone that just launched today (and then promptly sold out).

I’m totally in love with it. No wonder though, I mean, look at their tag line:

Remains

Wow.

Just wow.

Dog & Pig Remains by Cathy McClure

This image is part of a series of images that NOTCOT has of Cathy McClure’s “Remains” series, where McClure “skins” robotic toys, and then bronzes their plastic skeletons. The result is this beautiful robotic creature that reminds me of scifi interpretations of the promise of the atomic age. (Think Asimov.)

What I really love is that even without its soft elements, you can still tell what it was. I’d even venture to say that these machines have more soul than they did in their plushy forms.

They will be at Moss in New York November 20th – December 31st. And at Design Miami December 2nd – 5th.

Flying banners

A fly with a light weight banner attached to it with wax

The agency “Jung von Matt / Neckar” comes up with an ingenious viral. 200 were fly tipped at the Frankfurt Book Fair, with banners of the publisher Eichborn and sent through the halls.

The banners were attached with a special wax that the insect is not supposed to be harmful. The wax comes after some time off, including the residue from the banners fly.

There is something beautifully whimsical about this campaign. 200 flies buzzing around with tiny banners trailing behind them.

And I don’t see a single person swatting at those flies in the video, which also impresses me.

Happiness Hat

Back when I worked retail, during my first performance review, I was told that I never smiled. I had lighthearted conversations with customers, and generally seemed chipper, but I never smiled. All I could say in response was “I thought I was smiling.”

Happiness Hat by Lauren McCarthy fixes that. …through training.

That’s right, it’s a behavior modifying device that keeps you smiling by stabbing you in the head with a metal spike whenever you’re not.
