Sugru

Wow… this stuff looks amazing.

Sugru is a consumer, air setting, modeling silicone that just launched today (and then promptly sold out).

I’m totally in love with it. No wonder though, I mean, look at their tag line:

Sugru - Hack Things Better

They seem to have 2 proposed mission statements with this product, one that focuses on repair (which is good, don’t get me wrong. We need things that allow us to push away from disposable culture) and the other that focuses on hacking, which is where they have me swooning.

Hack it perfect (for you)
Why are so many mass-produced products just so bad? Uncomfortable tin openers, leaky trainers, they get our goat! Why should you have to spend £20 on a designer tin opener?? You shouldn’t! Hack the one you have instead. Power to the (handy) people!

Here’s some things already done with the product. Sugru’s site has a lot more images, and their blog seems to be pretty active with more.

Phone Modification
Glasses hook
bike grip hack

I’m really excited to see where people go with this product. Personally, I expect to see it used a lot in product development / improvement. Either directly, or indirectly (IE: in hacks becoming popular and then integrated into product). I can’t wait for them to get more made and in stock. Just way too cool.
